why do no prominant brazialians play in the english premiership?
here in the states we only get to see either the epl, mls or one italian game a week and i love watching the skills of guys like ronaldo, ronaldinho, kaka, robinho, adriano, etc. but none play in the epl and i always wondered why they all seem to do two years in the dutch league and move to either italy or spain, nothing against those two leagues but are they actually better than the epl and the epl is as overrated as the english and usa national teams or is the serie a and la liga the two strongest leagues? i was real curious i just find south american soccer fantastic and i always hear how great the english leagues are but its seems a reoccuring thing with no brazialians
my mistake i was not trying to insinuate that the epl is a weaker or overrated, i was asking for the sake of finding an answer to my main question.
Difference in pace between leagues.
In european leagues the pace is gentler, there's not as much pressuring going on and players are allowed more time on the ball. In the EPL if you dwell on a ball for a second too long you are going get tackled in a big way.
The fact that Vieira seemed out of sorts in the EPL in his last couple of games, slow, rusty and over the hill, then goes over to Serie A and looks a good player again is testimony to this
Language is another factor, but I personally think a lot of the brazilian players will actually struggle when they come to the EPL as they won't have the same amount of time to dwell on balls.
Cristiano Ronaldo was a brilliantly skilled player when he came to the EPL a few seasons ago, but 9/10 his skill and dribbles and tricks got him nowhere. He's now grown both as a player and his understanding of the English league and he's now a much better player all round.
