how do i learn how to play american football.?
i just moved to the U.S a couple of months from U.K and i want to play american football for high school instead of soccer. i thought about joining a league that will make me competent because i kinda have the basics, but i dont know where to start. any help?
watch football on tv (college and pro) and learn the terms. but if you play, the terms become more intense. plus, you should tune up on your memory skills. learning the plays, especially on offense is intense. most high schools have about 50-70 plays. most of them are related though, just in different formations. you need to learn meanings like pro i formation, iso blocks and jet sweep. if you play defenseagainst skilled players, you should work on man coverage, zone defense skills and anticipating people's movements. if you play some sort of lineman, you should learn about gaps, crossing blitzes and blitz pick up.
but if you do join, dont worry about all the stuff i said earlier because practices start 3 to months before the actual season. mini camp is about a week or 2 before the school year too. and if you get lost, ask the coaches why certain plays work and what to do in certain situations.
